Data Credits

Baseline NYC Parks Building information is provided by 596 Acres via API from LivingLotsNYC.org (documentation). You can read about how staff and volunteers create this data here. NYC Parks does not have an inventory of buildings (read more here).

Baseline Vacant Lot and Garden information is provided by 596 Acres via API from LivingLotsNYC.org (documentation).

Baseline Public Housing information is from the City of New York Open Data Portal dataset Map of NYCHA Developments.

Baseline Waterfont information is created by narrowing City-owned properties listed in MapPLUTO to only those within 150 feet from the city’s shoreline, then removing all parcels that are in other datasets listed here (Public Housing, post offices, etc). Find more information and our filtered dataset on GitHub.

Baseline Post Office information is from the City of New York Open Data Portal dataset  Post Office connected with property ownership information via MapPLUTO. Only Post Offices in buildings owned by USPS are displayed on NYCommons.org at this time. Post Offices renting their spaces from private landlords are not displayed (read more here); we are investigating the buildings that were built by the Postal Service and subsequently sold to private owners, then leased for use by USPS like the Astoria Post Office, which recently lost its building when the new owner chose a more lucrative use for the site. Find more information and our filtered dataset on GitHub.

Baseline Library information is from the City of New York Open Data Portal dataset Library connected with property ownership information via MapPLUTO. Only Libraries in buildings owned by one of the libraries, a library-supporting foundation or the City are displayed on nycommons.org at this time. Libraries renting their spaces from private landlords are not displayed. Find more information and our corrected dataset on GitHub.

Parks data comes from the City of New York's Open Data Portal dataset Parks Properties. We did not include community gardens listed in this dataset as the vacant lot and gardens layer takes precedence.

Information about Urban Renewal designations found on individual NYCommons properties is provided by Urban Reviewer available on GitHub.

Information about Landmarks designations found on individual NYCommons properties is from the City of New York Open Data Portal: Individual Landmarks, Historic Districts and Scenic Landmarks.
